Scientific instrument maker ("Glasblazer"), who lived and worked in Amsterdam (St. Luciensteeg) since about 1845. In 1860 the "Kunstglasblazerij" and "Fabriek van Meteorologische, Physische en Chemische Instrumenten van W. Geissler" was moved to the "Amsterveense Weg no 23". A retail shop was maintained at the "Nieuwe Zijds Achterburgwal", near the Spui. After Geissler's death in 1869, his widow Geissler-Groothuis, continued the "Kunstglasblazerij", at least until 1882.
Geissler made thermometers, psychrometers, discharge tubes and aerometers. Two aerometers signed 'W. Geissler, Amsterdam ', were auctioned in 1906 and 1910. Geissler was a brother of Johann Heinrich Geissler, the inventor of the electrical discharge tubes named after him.

Biography:
Instrument maker born around 1755 in Hallum, Friesland. Changed his last name into Gelder in 1812. He worked and lived in Hallum and Beetgum, where he made many different instruments, such as clocks, reflecting telescopes, microscopes, sundials, barometers, thermometers, magic lanterns and binoculars. His sons Rinse Beert Gelders (1794-1857) and Johannes Gelder (1777-1826) were also instrument makers, father Gelder probably worked together with his sons. Beert Johannes Gelder (2), also an instrument maker, was his grandson. Arjen Roelofs was his tutor. Gelder married Atje Piebes Zwart, with whom he had six children.

Biography:
Oosterwijk was clock and microscope maker in The Hague ('t Spui), ca 1655-1685. Born before 1637, married in 1657, died ca 1694. He probably came from Rotterdam. He had at least two apprentices: Pieter de Roo and Paulus Brederode and probably also his three sons: Adam, Johannes and Jacob. Johannes began a clockmaker shop in Amsterdam, Jacob in Rotterdam, while Adam stayed in the Hague. In 1658 he may have worked with Salomon Coster. After the death of Salomon Coster (1659), he made several experimental sea clocks for Christiaan Huygens in the period from 1663-1665 and made in 1678 a microscope for Constantijn Jr. From Oosterwijk, Huygens also ordered some pendulum clocks for friends abroad. Oosterwijk erected (together with his son Adam) the clockmakers Guild of The Hague in 1688. In 1689 he lived in Middelburg.
