Biography:
Flemish scientific instrument maker and map engraver, who founded a Spanish school of instrument makers. He is known as the maker of Made several mathematical instruments, including sundials, ring dials, astronomical compendia and simple theodolites.
In the late sixteenth century he worked in Brussels. However, a signed instrument dating from the early 1560s suggests that at this time he was working in Madrid. An instrument preserved in Florence specifies Toledo as its place of manufacture.

Biography:
Becker was a scientific instrument maker and inventor. He worked as an apprentice with his father Folkert Christopher Becker and later with Humboldt in Hannover. In Groningen he cooperated with professor Sibrandus Stratingh. In 1841, he started a instrument-making factory in Arnhem, where Hendrik Olland and Berend Holsboer were among his workers. After a conflict with the Arnhem municipal government over noise, Becker left The Netherlands for the United States. There he started the instrument-making factory 'Becker and Sons' in Brooklyn, NY. In 1855, he sold his Dutch company to Jan Jurrien Buddingh, who renamed it into 'Becker & Buddingh'. The Becker-company made a wide range of products including physical instruments, balance scales, electrometers, chronometers, thermopiles, pendulums, galvanometers, spirit levels, microscopes, fire hoses, and a steam wagon.
