Gerard van Keulen was a chart maker, publisher and cross-staff maker in the Nieuwebrugsteeg in Amsterdam, from 1704-1726. He became a poorter (citizen) and was admitted to the book sellers guild in 1704, and that year took over the family firm 'In de Gekroonde Lootsman' from his father Johannes van Keulen (1). After Gerard's death, in 1726, his son Johannes van Keulen (2) succeeded him in the firm. A cross-staff by him dated 1724 is preserved.

Arnoldus van Vastenhout was a compass maker in Amsterdam, in 1771, when he became poorter (citizen). From 1776-1815 his business was situated at the Haringpakkerij. After his death, in 1815, it was continued as a hardware and flags store by his widow (Gerarda Beijerinck) and their son, Willem Vastenhout, as 'Weduwe A. van Vastenhout en Zoon', on the Texelse Kaai, until 1828. Several compasses by Arnoldus have been preserved.

Hendrik Donker was admitted to the booksellers guild in Amsterdam, in 1647, he established his business as bookseller and cross-staff-maker 'In 't Stuurmans gereetschap' in the Nieuwe Brugsteeg, in 1648. He edited and sold sea-atlases and navigational manuals. Doncker sold his house to Johannes van Keulen (1), in 1693, who probably let it to him. His business was continued by his son Hendrik Doncker. A cross-staff by him is preserved, it is dated 1698.

Johannes Akerboom was a compass maker on the Texelse Kaai in Amsterdam, in 1762, from 1767-1771 on Bickerseiland, from 1777-1780 in the Buiten Brouwersstraat, and in 1780 on the Raamskooy, he died when living in the Kleine Kattenburgerstraat. One compass by Akerboom is preserved.

Johannes van Meurs was a compass maker in Amsterdam, in 1766, when he became poorter (citizen). In 1772 his address was on the Lastage, corner of the Buitenkant, and after 1789 at the Oude Teertuinen. He was the son of compass maker Hendrik van Meurs, and alderman of the compass makers guild in 1789 and 1792.
Collection: No work by him is on record, his guild medal is in the Fries Museum, Leeuwarden.
