Christiaan Huygens (1629-1695) was probably the most famous scholar born in the Netherlands. His discoveries and inventions in the field of natural philosophy and astronomy made him world famous.

The Christiaan Huygensweb with various information about this scholar was launched as an initiative of Utrecht University. In 2009 this site was integrated into the DWC. The texts were written by Rob van Gent, Rienk Vermij , Albert van Helden and Huib Zuidervaart.

The Christiaan Huygens Web was developped on the Institute for the History and Foundations of the Natural Sciences of Utrecht University. The advisors of the project were:

  • Rupert J. Genseberger (University of Utrecht)
  • Fokko Jan Dijksterhuis (Universiteit of Twente)
  • Hans Hooijmaijers (Museum Boerhaave, Leiden)
