Biography:
Arent Schokking was a scientific instrument and compass maker in Amsterdam, from 1826-1862 the Langestraat, and from 1863-1868 as Gebroeders Schokking on the Martelaarsgracht. He was the father of scientific and optical instrument maker Arend Jurriaan Schokking junior. Senior collaborated with instrument maker Daniel Frederik Wakker, and from 1849-1852 was amanuensis of Felix Meritis. One azimuth compass by senior is on record.
