Biography:
Instrument maker born around 1755 in Hallum, Friesland. Changed his last name into Gelder in 1812. He worked and lived in Hallum and Beetgum, where he made many different instruments, such as clocks, reflecting telescopes, microscopes, sundials, barometers, thermometers, magic lanterns and binoculars. His sons Rinse Beert Gelders (1794-1857) and Johannes Gelder (1777-1826) were also instrument makers, father Gelder probably worked together with his sons. Beert Johannes Gelder (2), also an instrument maker, was his grandson. Arjen Roelofs was his tutor. Gelder married Atje Piebes Zwart, with whom he had six children.

Biography:
Leendert Harri junior was a navigational instrument maker and retailer in Amsterdam, first at the Stroomarkt. In 1869 he joined his father's business and in 1880 he opened a shop in the Kalverstraat in Amsterdam. Until 1881 he infrequently signed with 'Jr.' It is usually difficult to distinguish between instruments made by father and son. Harri died after 1880, the business on the Prins Hendrikkade was continued by various owners, selling, cleaning and repairing navigating instruments, until about 1988.
