Biography:
Son of a textile industrialist from Kortrijk, Belgium. After studying theology in Louvain and architecture and drawing in Kortrijk he married Clara Vercruyssen. Together, they would have six children. Goethals Vercruyssen worked in the family company but mostly interested in collecting books, coins, prints and drawings and archeological objects. He was also highly interested in the Battle of the Golden Spurs and was a tutor and later the president of the drawing academic of Kortrijk. His grandson Alberic was a pioneer in photography. Additionally, Goethals Vercruyssen published on the history of Kortrijk.
