Joseph Maria Solaro succeeded his father Anthonie Solaro Sr. as chimney sweep. He made also meteorological instruments. Around 1800 he moved to Amsterdam, where he worked in an association with Donatus Butti. Later he returned to Leeuwarden.

Worked for Natuurkundig Gezelschap Utrecht, first as a servant and later as an instrument maker (after the death of G. Munnich 1828).
